About Railway Recruitment :-
Indian railway department offer employment to near 1.5 million people and is the largest employer in the world. From the point of employment Railway is preferred by people as it is a recession free sector and provides excellent growth. Moreover it provides a secure and gratifying carrier.
For administration purpose Indian railway is categorized in to 17 Zones. Each zone consists of several city wise divisions. Each division further consist of technical and non-technical departments. Technical department require engineers (civil, mechanical, electrical and telecommunication) and other professionals where as non technical department offer employment in services such as railway protection force (RPF), accounts, security and personal management.
The job position in railway is categorised on the basis of groups. There are four group Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D. Highest rank Railway officers belong to Group ‘A’ whereas Group ‘D’ corresponds to lowest rank jobs. Presently 1.6 lakh railway vacancies are looking of eligible candidates.
- Group ‘A’:-UPSC conduct Civil Services Examination to recruit capable candidate in Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) and the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) department. UPSC conduct Combined Engineering Service Examination and Special Class Railway Apprentices (SCRA) Exam to fill the vacancies in Indian Railway services of Engineers (IRSE), Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Indian Railway Services Stores (IRSS) and Indian Railway Service Mechanical Department. The notification regarding exam are available at www.upsc.gov.in/. Higher rank officers belonging to group ‘A’ are recruited by these exams.
- GROUP B: – Railway does not make any recruitment under this group. Railway department promote Group-C employee to Group-B posts on deputation basis.
- GROUP ‘C’ and ‘D’:-Vacancies of post belonging to group ‘C’ and ‘D’ such as Clerk, Station Master Ticket Collector, Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Engineering posts, Trackman, Helper, Assistant Points Man, Gunman, Peon etc. are filled using Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).
Every year railway department announces various jobs for their central and southern division for filling vacancies such as Clerk, Group C and Group D through RRB. There are 19 RRBs located all over the India and eligible candidate from any region can apply for RRB examinations. Candidates’ .Eligible Candidates may apply online for filling the application form of railway vacancies. After submitting the application Candidates need to appear in written examination. These exams are conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).
